Take a look at our Treatment Summary to help give you an idea if the basics when it comes to laser tattoo removal treatments:
If you are one of the people who have a tattoo that they regret, then laser removal is a safe and effective way to remove those unwanted tattoos. Not all lasers are the same and not just any laser can safely remove tattoos. The clinic has the most advanced, active Q-Switch lasers – known to be the only type of laser that is clinically effective for tattoo removal.
There are two main types of Tattoos: The Indian ink amateur tattoo or the multi-coloured professional tattoo. Particular colours of ink are easier to treat i.e. black, blue, red and green colours forming part of the tattoo always respond best to treatment, but, yellow, purple, pastel colours and fleshy toned pigment often prove to be more difficult.
At this clinic, we have not 1, but 3, Q-Switch lasers, which means that you can be confident that regardless of the colour or colours of your tattoo we have the most suitable laser for you.
You will need a treatment once approximately every 6-8 weeks and a full course of 8-12 treatments is generally needed. Each treatment itself takes around between 10 and 30 minutes
The area undergoing treatment can feel tender and swollen for approximately 48 hours following treatment and should any blisters and grazes form, they usually heal within 7-10 days.
An instant whitening of the ink is seen but this generally fades quickly. The area is likely to feel a little sore or tender for a few hours and may be red and swollen for up to 48 hours. Bleeding may occur at the time of the treatment, but this is generally slight and a dressing will be applied. Some tattoos may form a graze or blister it is important to leave this so that the area can heal naturally. Some clients do notice a lightening or darkening of the treated skin, but in most cases, this returns to normal skin tone after a few months. Change to skin texture and scarring is possible, though very uncommon and is more likely to occur if the grazes or blisters mentioned above are not allowed to heal naturally.
The majority of clients describe the feeling as being similar to a hot pin prick or the flick of an elastic band. During the treatment it can be quite uncomfortable, but most people tolerate the treatment well and a skin cooling device is used to limit discomfort.
If the tattoo is one of the easier colours to treat (black, blue, red and green colours) then we are able to reduce it to the point where it appears to bevirtually gone. We describe the result as typically not 100%, but 90-95%, so that looking at the area you would not know it was a tattoo, as you would not be able to depict the outline or wording. But,a tiny bit of ink may still be visible often described as looking like the last signs of a bruise. With the trickier colours (often the lighter colours such as yellow, flesh tones, or purple and pastel colours) the fading will be less and the results are more variable.
Our advanced Q-switch technology works by allowing the light produced by the laser to pass through the skin and break up the tattoo ink into tiny particles. The body then naturally disposes of these fragments via its immune system. It generally takes several treatments to ensure success, with regular intervals between sessions.
Yes! We are fortunate enough here to have a ruby laser which produces red light and works effectively on blue and green ink. Because of this specialist laser we treat a high number of people for green and blue ink tattoos because there are not many ruby lasers available.
Indeed we can. We regularly work on eyebrows that have had cosmetic tattoos, treating them with excellent outcomes. By working round the hairs most people find that in just a few treatments they can see a good fade. We donot treat eyeliner at all, as in our opinion it is too close to the eye; further, we seldom treat lip liner as it frequently changes colour almost instantly to a dark grey colour, which does not give an attractive result.
