Pigmentation Removal Manchester

Pigmentation Treatments & Solutions

• An excellent solution if you are after a more even skin tone
• You prefer to reduce areas of excessive freckling
• You are concerned with a certain age spot/freckle

Freckles, sun spots, liver or age spots and other undesired areas of pigmentation are often due to skin ageing and the damage caused by over-exposure to both sun and/or sunbeds. In most cases, these pigmentation spots are not a health risk, but many people feel that they can be unsightly and result in an uneven, less youthful appearance. Both freckles and age spots can be lightened or removed successfully with either a Q-Switch Laser or Intense Pulse Light (IPL).

Carried out by our laser experts

Whilst many pigmentation concerns are as a result of sun exposure, some people have pigmented birthmarks or may have Melasma. Melasma is a condition where the skin pigmentation changes and this is often linked with pregnancy or hormones. Birthmarks can often be treated successfully with a Q-Switch Laser however Melasma can be a little more difficult to treat, but can be managed with PRIORI® Idebenone Complex Superceuticals® Peel.

A slight reddening, or possibly a little swelling is the most that the majority of people experience, these side effects disappear generally within a couple of hours or up to a couple of days. Only very occasionally a small blister may form or there may be a temporary lightening or darkening of the skin.

Virtually any area on the body can be treated, but the most common areas requested by clients for this treatment are to the face, neck, décolleté and hands.

Initially the pigment will actually darken over the first few days following treatment and may even appear more obvious for the first 1-3 weeks. It is also likely to feel a little dry and flaky at this time; this is to be expected and then the pigment actually flakes off and you should be left with an area without excess pigmentation.

During treatment clients report that the sensation can be mildly uncomfortable, comparable to the feeling of a hot pin prick; afterwardsthere is a warm, tingling sensation, not unlike sunburn.

The majority of people are suitable for laser pigmentation treatment excepting those who are very dark skinned or sun-tanned clients. The clinic also cannot give laser treatment to moles or any raised pigmentation areas as these should be seen and if necessary removed by a Dermatologist or Plastic Surgeon.

In most cases 1-3 treatments are sufficient for freckles, sun spots and age spots, treatments given at 4-6-week intervals.

The Laser/IPL emits short bursts of light which is easily absorbed by the high concentration of melanin (colour) found within freckles, sun spots or age spots.  The rapid absorption of light heats the melanin and breaks down the melanin-rich cells without affecting skin in the surrounding areas.
